
At 21, Pier-Yves Bouchard, a follower of soccer and physical education student at Laval University, was also coach and technical director for soccer association, where he has also evolved as an athlete for many years. According to his peers, he was a huge sports fan who was very popular with young people he coached.
On February 28, 2009, during a tournament indoor soccer, Pier-Yves lost his balance while one of his opponents tried to steal the ball and hit his head on the wall while falling. During his transfer to hospital, Pier-Yves was conscious but confused. His condition subsequently deteriorated and he required surgery to the brain. Plunged into a coma, Pier-Yves never regained consciousness. He died March 29, 2009 at the Hôpital de l'Enfant-Jesus.
With the desire to bring assistance to victims, awareness of sports-related traumatic brain injury and perpetuate the memory of Pier-Yves the Foundation Pier-Yves Bouchard was created.
